STEP 4 – BLASTING AND WEIR REMOVAL
Some of the bedrock shelf upstream of the intake will be removed to promote water flow into the new powerhouse. This will be done through blasting and hoe ramming.
Weirs will be removed in preparation for the installation of the new ones.
STEP 2 – DEWATERING AND SALVAGE IN THE UPSTREAM COFFERDAM
As mentioned in Step 1 (see July 12, 2016 update), construction work in rivers is most often done in the dry. So once various cofferdams are completed, the water is removed from within this isolated area. And then, a biologist comes on-site to complete a salvage of aquatic fauna.
Turbid water left the site on the morning of July 14th. The Project Supervisor contacted Enerdu’s inspector who was already in route and arrived on-site at 8am and advised where water samples should be collected from. Project Supervisor called the Spills Action Centre and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry.Read more
STEP 1 – ACCESS ROAD AND COFFERDAM CONSTRUCTION
To provide access for the construction equipment and vehicles into what will become the in-water work area. The cofferdam will help stop water from entering this area and allow for the work area to eventually be dewatered.
